In 2005, the Texas Department of
Transportation, TxDOT, undertook a study of the impact and relationship of
airports in Texas with the statewide economy. We found that Texas aviation
provides over 61,000 jobs, with 2.5 billion in payroll and 8.7 billion in total
economic output.
Texas has two of the top 10 busiest airports in the nation. It also has 303
public, general-aviation airports and 23 commercial service airports. Airports
help meet our transportation needs and also stimulate economic growth in the
local community by providing revenue, jobs and wages.
